My brother is the best father and husband in his household. He’s the best personal injury attorney at his desk in his office. He’s the best pool player at any pool table where he’s playing by himself. And he’s the best driver on the road whenever he’s driving by himself. It’s true that my brother doesn’t set the bar high or have any great expectations for himself. He does just what he has to get by and he does get by. He has a family and a house, a pretty nice car, a good paying job, and he only has a few friends, but they’re good friends. Still, he could be more. He just doesn’t try. He’s the classic example of someone your teacher in school used to say was smart, but never applied himself. Sure, he’s a lawyer, and that’s not an easy profession nor is the legal field easy to break into, but he didn’t put any great effort into it. After he passed the bar (well, barely passed the bar), he made a few calls and after that he had a job lined up. He’s coasted from case to case since, mostly taking the easy ones to trial. I’ve heard that lawyers work insane hours and barely have any time to themselves, but my brother always has free time. How does he spend it? Watching TV.
