I guess I would have to call myself something of an outside-the-box thinker. I was slicing up carrots to add them to my chicken soup when I accidentally cut myself. And, please, don’t tell me there are no accidents. I surely didn’t secretly intend to spill my blood on the carrots I wanted to eat. At first, I panicked since I couldn’t find any band-aids and somehow I had to staunch the bleeding. Luckily, then I saw my father’s BD Test Strips up in the corner of a kitchen cabinet. He uses them when he takes his glucose test every day for his diabetes. He pricks his fingertip and squeezes out a drop of blood onto one of the strips and runs it through the glucose blood meter to check his glucose level. I doubted he’d mind if I borrowed a few. So I grabbed some tape and used that to hold the BD test strips around my finger. They were quickly stained deep red so I wrapped around some more and added more tape. When I was done, I realized I’d used the whole box, but that was fine. Dad had others. Or he should. The man is a diabetic and needs to have back-ups.
