In my opinion there really isn’t anything that you should take for granted as a business owner, but one thing that I see that’s lacking in many business around mine is security. The importance of security in my place of business is of the utmost concern to me. I spared no expense when choosing the system that was going to protect my business, and therefore my livelihood, when I’m not there. I’ve got sensors on every door and every window, I’ve got motion detectors and closed circuit TV – if someone tries to get into my store after hours the police and I will both certainly know about it. I run an antique store and some of the items I have on display in there at any given moment could be worth thousands and thousands of dollars. I’ve got works of art that are alone worth one hundred times as much as the most advanced alarm system that money can buy. The cost of buying, installing and maintaining a good security system is only a fraction of what I would stand to lose if someone broke into and looted my store. I don’t think that it’s very advisable for any business to go unprotected, but not having top of the line protection in my store would be ridiculous.
